Be careful as all of these services (including this one) are taking little steps. Jaiku has its problems and I for one am now a little wary of putting the boot in too quickly
Yes, WaveyDavey doesn't know me, obviously. But that's ok! Consider myself more than warned. Richard knows me. I sing and dance for the smallest of advances. Google will rock it, everyone knows this. Give them time.
Yep I don't know some of you and I wasn't wanting to cause offence (but I love the debate). A bit like @warza I am reflecting on the extremes on Jaiku at the moment. Some have left in disgust, some are putting it on a pedestal above everything else
The fact of the matter is, Google does good work. Evil as I think their data mining is, they still rock innovation. Behemoth, definitely. Useful, though.
If ever there's a service that should be destroyed and forgotten about it's twitter. Without such an active community it would have died 8 months ago. That's why google bought jaiku rather than twitter. (IMHO)
Google has a massive budget and a massive infrastructure which means that whilst there are bugs now on jaiku it has the potential to enlarge greatly. We can invite as many people as we have in our address book. In two weeks once the move is finished almost completely then jaiku will be very interesting.
The last step would be an iphone and windows mobile client. Most people don't know what microblogging is anyway so that's secondary at this point in time.

We're all wary of websites' that's not the issue, it's about whether it works when we want to use the site or whether it's down.
Things should improve within the next few hours and days.

It's been an interesting day, been reading the various threads that the developers are commenting on.
